Building for His Kingdom
A Vision for St Peter & St Paul’s Anglican Church
Christian life and community are alive at the corner of Metcalfe and Gloucester. For generations, St Peter & St Paul’s has been a place in the heart of Ottawa where people gather to worship God, grow in faith, and serve their neighbours.
Through Building for His Kingdom, we are seeking to preserve our historic church building and ensure that our ministries flourish for years to come.
What Happens Here Each Week
Our building is used throughout the week for worship, fellowship, and service to the community.
-
Each week, we gather to hear God’s Word, pray together, and celebrate Holy Communion. Children and young people are welcomed and encouraged to grow in the faith.
-
Every Friday evening, we serve a nutritious meal and offer warm hospitality to 80 or more guests, many of whom experience poverty, marginalization, or loneliness.
-
In partnership with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, international students gather for meals and friendship in Stiller Hall.
-
Programs such as Alpha provide a welcoming place for people to explore the Christian faith.
-
Each year we host festive Christmas meals for those who might otherwise spend the holidays alone.
-
Bible studies, breakfasts, youth gatherings, and small groups help people grow in faith and community.
Why Act Now
Our church building was constructed in 1880 and has faithfully supported the ministry of St Peter & St Paul’s for generations.
While the parish invests significantly each year in regular maintenance, a number of larger repairs and improvements are now needed. Addressing these needs now will preserve this historic place of worship and ensure the building continues to support ministry and outreach in the years ahead.
Priorities
Building for His Kingdom has three main priorities:
-
This essential work includes repairs to windows in disrepair, brickwork that is deteriorating, and a foundation that needs waterproofing and repair.
-
These projects will complete work deferred in 2019, such as replacing the flooring, refurbishing the pews, improving seating in the balcony, and installing an accessibility ramp to improve access to the lift.
-
We plan programs to equip future ministry leaders, expand outreach that builds relationships, and plant a new church to spread the Gospel.
Looking Ahead
For more than a century, people have gathered at St Peter & St Paul’s in worship, fellowship, and service. With God’s help, and through the generosity of our community, we hope to ensure that this ministry continues to Share God’s Transforming Love from the Heart of Ottawa.
Stewardship: Your Invitation to Participate as a Disciple
Two principles guide our response to this call for extraordinary stewardship. Above and beyond faithful regular giving:
Give prayerfully and sacrificially according to your means.
Prayer is essential and foundational.
We ask that you pray, “God, what would you do through me and through us as a parish?”
